James has an gifted eye for a great angle and is very intuitive about how to capture the best shots in and out of the water, in a whole host of different settings and lights. From spending time with James in nature he is really happiest working in this environment and his photographs are world class.
James has photographed all sorts of swimmers in action from triathletes to ice swimmers, dogs and mermaids, and his work really does speak for itself.
As a life long sea swimmer growing up on the east coast in Scotland and new to the Lakes 4 years ago, I have loved swimming with James in Cumbria and in Scotland. He has captured some really magical peaceful moments for me which have gone on to inspire other people to look into getting more from the outdoors, and that's surely the purpose of any great photographer. To inspire and capture those fleeting moments as we breathe in life one moment at a time.

Not only is he extremely knowledgable, professional and brilliant at photography, he also has a way of making the situation feel natural and relaxed. This allows you to feel at ease and to get on with your swim/activity just as you would whilst he captures the best moments. I have spent time with James on several occasions whilst he has taken swimming photos for me and it is always enjoyable and exciting. James is able to adapt his skills to get the shots that you're after - it is evident that this is something that comes naturally to James as he has a real eye for movement, light and angles. Every time that James send across the photos that he has shot I am always blown away (and I can't believe it's me!). On top of everything he is a lovely guy and a pleasure to spend time with. James is an extremely talented and generous photographer! He lives and breathes the outdoors and it's clear that he is happiest when out on an adventure and sharing in his passion with others. Not only does he work extensively in Cumbria and beyond capturing outdoor sporting events; in his spare time, he can also be found navigating his way around the Lake District looking for the hidden gems and best spaces for solitude the area has to offer, resulting in a breadth of knowledge of our local area!
